New items on Etsy!

Alright,

There are some new items including Tutus, Makeup Pouches, Purses, Onesies, etc...that have been posted on Etsy with many more to come.  All of these items on etsy are part of the charity event for the homeless and needy families.

To refresh those of you that have forgotten or those of you that don't know; it is an event where any purchase made on etsy qualifies for one handmade scarf or neckwrap to be donated to the homeless or a family need this holiday season.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/nichellesboutique

Remember... there are only 9 items up as of right now but there are many more to come in the next few days... as well as our ASPCA charity with the scarves (the scarves that are purchased are not only having 50% of the proceeds donated to the ASPCA but they are also a valid qualification for our other charity for the homeless and the needy.

With a lot of hope in my heart to help,

New Charity event

I am going to be making some beautiful accent scarves within the next couple of days and selling them for $3.00/each.  The most beautiful part of these scarves is that for every one purchased 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the ASPCA.

If you are wondering about this organization and what is, what it does, who it helps, etc... please feel free to visit the following site to answer any and all of your questions;

http://www.aspca.org/get-involved.aspx

This is an amazing organization to get involved with and even though times are tight and it's the holiday season no less, you can still help just by doing your christmas shopping or finishing those stocking stuffers.

I will post more on this and where you can purchase these scarves tomorrow!

With much love and a hopeful heart to help,

Nichelle

Don't be a complainer... you never know who's listening.

So let me tell you a little bit about this Holiday Bazaar that I went to this Saturday.

As usual, I was procrastinating until last minute because I can't seem to separate myself from playtime with my son... it's just too much fun, and there I was freaking out the night before the bazaar because I wasn't ready and I had no idea what to expect the next day.  One of my friends who owns a business doing little girls hair accessories happened to be doing the same bazaar and is seasoned in these sorts of things, so I was even more nervous to not look like a fool, hahaha.

Instead of just picking up the phone and giving my friend a call to get a little insight on what to expect, I decided I would "look" like I knew what I was doing and just go with the flow... WRONG CHOICE!  So like I said, there I was freaking out the night before and I was up until 3 in the morning trying to finish all the little loose ends I had saved for last minute ( labels on the chapstick, labels in general, displays, cash for change, etc...), and I had to be up at 6 a.m..

NOT THE SMARTEST MOVE!!!

So I actually woke up on time the next morning ( must have been a miracle, especially with me being pregnant because I sleep like a log anyways ) and i'm packing the car, getting ready to head out and I start freaking out... I realized that I had reserved an 8 foot table space, which is quite large, and I hadn't made enough to fill the table... why?, because I had procrastinated!  Who wants to go buy from an empty table?  Nobody right, it's all about presentation!  So as usual, I'm picking myself and my products apart on the way to the bazaar, thinking about all of the things I could have done to make them better and all of the things I still have to do when I get there.  A quick suggestion, DON'T DO THAT... it's not healthy, but I'm pretty sure it's normal for most of us in this field.

When I get inside the bazaar, I go to the check in desk to check in and do all the usual stuff before you set up and they tell me they can't find me... ( this is why I always use a credit card to reserve tables ).  Once we clear the first obstacle and they find me a table, I realize, it's only a six foot table and not the eight foot table I payed for, not only is it the wrong size, it's wedged between to eight foot tables running parallel at the end of a row facing the back of the room... could it get any worse? This was a HUGE problem because I had background displays that needed to be set up and NO WHERE for them to go with two vendors on either side of my back.

So I make the call to tell the person delivering my displays (my sister) not to bother because there is not only no room for them, but I only had the six foot table instead of the eight foot table.  As usual, because she's my sister, I felt just fine venting to here for a second about all of my frustrations with the morning so far... all while the vendors next to me were setting up.  Although I had being using a low voice on the phone, there's not much room for privacy at these events.  So I get off the phone, and get on with setting up my booth.  After running out to the car to grab some more items, I came back to find the vendor next to me telling me that if I needed extra space I could use the corner of her table that was still empty... how sweet is that?  This is when I realized I was being "THAT" person.  You know, the one who's always complaining and pointing the finger at someone else... yep, that was me.

Once I had this realization, I also realized that EVERYTHING happens for a reason... I was just complaining I didn't have enough stuff to fill an eight foot table, and somehow, I ended up with the only six foot table at the bazaar...seriously, I just needed a little eye opener as to what I had, and not what I didn't have.

About half way through the bazaar (still not making one sale) I met the most wonderful lady named Barbara who did some amazing Jewelry at the booth next to mine.  Not only were the ladies sitting on either side of me amazing to talk to, but they had some wonderful hints and tips for the next bazaar, my website, etc...

The bottom line is this, at the end of the day I had only made 3 sales, which wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but I walked away with more then sales that day for my business.  I walked away from that bazaar knowing exactly what to expect for the next time, some amazing contacts for my business, and maybe even a few friends for the future!

So no matter how bad you think you've messed things up, or how you might be getting cheated, etc... try and find the silver lining however difficult because it truly can save your day... and maybe even your business.

Nichelle

Try something new!

Alright everyone,

Yesterday was my first ever Holiday Bazaar and it was AWESOME!  Like I said, I had never done anything like this before with the business but I decided it was time to get myself out there and try something new so I did, and it was such a wonderful experience.  So I may have not made a ton of sales but the contacts that I made and the lessons I learned just by trying it were priceless.

Don't get me wrong, I was nervous beyond belief on the way there and the experience that I had the night before to get ready is a whole other story that i'll tell you later on ( too long and funny for one blog post ), but even with all my fears of what could go wrong, some of which happened, it still was a worth while trip.  You NEVER know what you might find or who you might meet, even if everything you thought could go wrong truly does go wrong... you could still walk away broke and in good spirits.

Wheeeewwww!

Wow,

What a year this has been!  This year just seems to keep moving faster and faster and here we are, already in December.  Fall term is coming to an end and it has been a long anticipated end.

So news as of lately...

I am in my last year of school ( Thank Goodness!) and starting two Internships while finishing this year... hoping all goes well with this all happening so fast.  Not that everything coming to an end, on top of being a mommy isn't a full time job, my husband and I got some very exciting news... we're pregnant again!!!  Since I found out that we are pregnant I have been diving back into my craftiness... what a much needed dive that was too!

So there I was fiddling with some baby items and my sewing machine and I realized, I have neglected my second love (aside from my family), my business.  As life gets carried away sometimes I tend to get carried away with it... i'm pretty sure that's the artsy side of my brain, and put my own loves on the back burner for those that need my attention more urgently, thus the result of my neglecting you... and for that I apologize!

I have made a point of jumping back in the water by signing myself up for my first ever Holiday Bizarre.

For those of you that are interested, it is at River Road Park in Eugene, Oregon on saturday, December 4th, 2010 from 9-4.

I'm also selling new items never before sold such as baby bunting bags, onesies, pacifier clips, Handmade custom ordered Graphic Design items, etc...

So i'm pretty sure this brings us up to date as of now and I will make sure to keep up on the posts as well as keeping the new and improved items coming your way, of course with lots of pics!

Overwhelmed

Sorry for the lack of posts lately,

I am just feeling overwhelmed lately with all of this school work and feeling like I don't have enough time to concentrate on what I really love, my business!  I guess this is all part of life though huh?  Making ends meet, meeting deadlines, pushing more then you can handle into a day's length...don't forget to breathe!

I think that is the main thing for me, remember to breathe and take in every moment as an opportunity instead of wall that I have run into, remembering to learn from my experience and grown as a result of it vs. getting bogged down with disappointment and resentment for not getting to do what I want to do, work on the business.

I LOVE my business and what I do, but finishing something that I started and pushing forward through something difficult is just as important to me.  So I ask you as my readers and friends, to be patient with me and even help encourage me along... everyone could use words of encouragement now and then.

A long time coming

It's finally all starting to come together! We started by making some sales on etsy.com/shop/nichellesboutique, our bags and lip balm are now in two different locations (Sixth Avenue Day Spa & Salon and Wildflower Clothing), and I just got word that we might have an order coming through for a couple dozen bags on one purchase...whoohooooo.

This is what it's all about for our business, getting to put together something that you think is adorable and would use personally and then watch the reaction of other people (either good or bad, they both make you stronger). Finally, to see the orders start coming through, proving that you weren't wrong... there are other people out there that will love it too!

On that note... Here's my motto for the day:

If you thought it, someone else already wrote it.
If you want it, someone else already bought it.
If you dream it, do it before someone else does and make it count!

New Year, New Excitement!

I'm sooo excited!  I just found out that there is a possibility of "Nichelle's Boutique bags" being sold in an adorable little Maternity/Mother & Daughter Boutique in Eugene, Oregon named "Zippies."  It has a very "soho" sort of feel to it and is the perfect companion for the display of our bags.  I will keep you all updated as to whether or not this actually happens and exactly where the store is located for those of you who would like to go check it out.

Keep your fingers crossed!

How It All Started

Hello there everyone, this blog is my way of sharing a little bit about the daily workings within Nichelle's Boutique.  You'll be able to see what goes on behind the scenes as well new products for sale and even projects in the works.  My hope is that this blog will be a good way to open the lines of communication for you as the customer, to be able to give feedback or your thoughts on products available or even ideas for products your would like to see in the future.

Nichelle's Boutique was started in the corner of my dining room after a day of Art's & Crafts with my four niece's and the purchase of my first sewing maching.  The feeling that I had after I made my first bag was incredible, that sense of accomplishment from knowing that I had made that bag from start to finish was just unforgetable.  Needless to say I didn't stop at just the one bag, I had finally found my niche... that thing that everyone is always looking for in that back of their minds, the one thing that truly makes them feel as though they are playing or having fun instead of working.

I started by making different sizes and styles of bags that I would use and actually testing them out in my everyday life to see if they would really hold up in everyday situations... since I am the proud mother of a 2 1/2 year old boy I figured this was a good endurance test for any size bag I could think of.  We packed each bag full of toys, diapers, juice cups, extra juice, books and of course what would normally be in my purse to see if these bags could truly pass the test, and to this day I personally guarantee my bags!
